description
This building, found in the heart of the Forbidden City, is the Hall of Supreme Harmony (TaiHeDian) and is regarded as the focal symbol of imperial power. Built in 1406 and repaired several times after, it is also known as the “Golden Carriage Palace,” and is the highest structure in the whole of China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was used for grand ceremonies, from the ascent of the emperor to the throne, his birthday, receiving of high ranking officials, dispatching of generals to war, celebration of weddings, and other events important to the Chinese people such as the Winter Solstice and Chinese New Year.
