This woman was in the market area of Baclaran in Manila. There are young and old beggars in Manila, but more vendors and merchants. They often sell things car-to-car in the congested streets.
commentsflorence r.caiņa cagayan de oro city, philippines -- 2006-10-16 there are lots of beggars in manila, sad but these are common to vagrants who roam around baclaran, pque city, manila.this is a depiction of how's the economy doing in manila actually... Menino Dorio Toronto, Canada -- 2006-11-07 Yes, it breaks our heart each time we see pictures like these, but this condition is not local to Manila, or Philippines in general. We saw similar scenes in NYC, in Athens, in Montreal, in Sao Paolo, and even in Frankfurt [we always thought Germans are well off]. Please do not dramatize it, as if poverty only happens in the Philippines. It's a global cancer. val harold cabias cavite -- 2007-03-11 the scene in these pic signifies how our future self may look if we dont stand to poverty and do something about it.... Anna Wilson Staffordshire, England -- 2008-01-29 I do agree with Mr Dorio, yes poverty does not only happen in the Philippines but also in other wealthy nations. England herself carry such poverty, mostly in the big cities such as London, Birmingham and Manchester, sad. Edna Masculino Australia -- 2008-06-25 I felt very sad to see this woman begging for money to survive.I guess this is the only way to survive that nobody to look after you Post a comment on this pictureThis page last modified:2005-04-19 | |
