This category has pictures of my late brother, Marc Gregerson.

Marc was adopted as an infant by my parents, and was a year older than me. We grew up in the Twin Cities, but he moved to the Palm Springs area around 1988, where my Mom had also relocated.

Marc was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in August of 2000. He had stage IIIA Hodgkins, with a 80-90% chance of recovery. Several courses of chemotherapy failed to put the cancer into remission, and Marc had a stem cell transplant at UCLA Medical Center in January of 2002.

The lymphoma didn't stay in remission, and Marc returned to UCLA for a non-myloablative, allogenic bone marrow transplant (a "mini-allo"). He was discharged in December of 2002, but was re-admitted with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) on New Year's Eve. GVHD is a side-effect of the bone marrow transplant, and was expected.

Marc was expected to recover from the GVHD in a couple weeks, but it progressed to severed (stage 4) GVHD, which has a very high mortality rate. He was transferred to the intensive care unit around January 8th, 2003, and remained there for 10 weeks. The cumulative damage caused by the GVHD made recovery impossibe.

Marc passed away March 20th, 2003. His ashes are interned in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Marc is survived by his wife, daughter, and two step-sons. He handled his illness with real toughness, and his life continues to have a positive effect on our family.
