description
You are on Main Street Southeast near Central Avenue. The Mississippi River and Nicollet Island are behind you. The plaza and green, glass entrance belong to Riverplace, a shopping center built in the 1980s. This was the site of Mississippi Live for a few years in the 1990s, a conglomeration of nightclubs with live music.
commentswilliam Minneapolis -- 2002-01-02 This is the area where the food court use to be located. Right now it is only an open space with benches and the area where the cafes and such use to be is full of ugly cream colored offices. To the far left is the apartment building annd adjacent to that tower is the expensive condominium complex. Susan Forest Lake -- 2002-08-12 I moved to Minneapolis in Sept.'84 for employment reasons. I selected an apartment on 7th SE, just blocks from St.Anthony Main & Riverplace. I loved that there were people out walking at night. I didn't have to get in my car to "go somewhere." As I didn't know anyone in the cities, I spent many evenings and weekends strolling to this lively, active area. Christmas came to life at the newly opened Riverplace, with its brass railings and wandering carolers! Rodney McCoy Riverplace -- 2003-09-11 I live and worked in riverplace for 7 years I did not want to leave. We lost the shop natural image and many good freinds.I still think about the good ols days of riverplace.I would not do it again but it was a good exp. Don Rud Plymouth, MN -- 2006-01-31 This picture brings back such found memories. I ran the maintenance and engineering at Riverplace for nearly 17 years, from 4/1984 through 10/2000. In the beginning it was wild and fun trying to "survive" all the events (New years eve, summer concerts & movies, 4th of July, Christmas, etc) Then we went through a few "transitions" some not so fun (Missippi Live night club & then changing all the retail into office) But the worst transition was when the property was sold and the Sentinal Property Management came in. It was at that time that all myself 95% of my fellow employees actually quit after so many fine years. I have not stepped foot onto the property since. Post a comment on this picture | |
