description

This massive factory or warehouse, taking up several blocks on 2nd Street near the river, is a recognizable landmark to me, but I cannot describe it until I learn what it is. The blue and white color scheme is familiar, but I don't know who owns it.

This is Metal Matic, Inc. A steel and aluminum metal fabication facility. They
    make finished parts and assemblies.
Metal Matic has been going strong for at
    least 30 years. - Andy

DOWN TOWARD THE EAST END OF THIS BUILDING, ON 2ND ST S.E., IS AN EXHAUST OF SOME KIND PROTRUDING FROM THE WALL. ABOUT EVERY MINUTE OR SO, THERE IS A PERCUSSIVE BURST OF SOUND FROM THIS EXHAUST. I THINK OF THIS AS "THE HEART OF THE BEAST", THE AUDIBLE EVIDENCE OF SOME HUGE, METAL CRUNCHING MACHINE INSIDE.

This place is called mental-matic. People will tell you they make red diamond quality steel tubing, but it really is lousy quality and the management treats the employees like dirt. a word of cation!!!!!!!! do not buy there product or work there its dangerous to your health!!!

It is true... They treat their workers like dirt... Always have and always will...Managment there has no clue whats going on...There is nothing an employee has to look forward to there, except an early death.

  • Me Again   Near by -- 2001-12-17

I've worked there for over 15 years..."The man" in charged was afraid of me because I was smarter than him... So out I had to go... So... If you are a dumb $&#$ like " the man " you'll do ok working here... till you die an early death from cancer.

  • Yep... Me again   Near by -- 2001-12-17

Would you believe it gets up to 135 degrees in the summer here? And do they expect you to keep working your butt off? They sure do... And winter time... Usually around 40 degrees... unless some truck is backing in... Your coffee may freeze cause its so cold... Winter storm warnings... freeways closing... tough luck for you... Your stuck there till the end of your shift or suffer severe penalties... This place make tubing for the auto industry... ever wonder why there is so many recalls on automobiles? Steel tube failure... They know they make junk but sell it for quality anyway... red diamond my $%#

The Building pictured is the "old" American Bridge Bldg. Since 1951 it has been Metal-Matic, Inc. A Stuctural Steel Tube Mill. The comments by the illiterate person claiming to be Deland is not. Metal-Matic is a fine Family owned business and has employed hundreds of Minneapolis and St. Paul residents for many years.
