description
Traveling closer to the river, this picture shows a waterfall under a U of M hydro lab. NSP has a facility here, too, I'm not sure which is which. The blocks in the foreground are whimsical and original. I don't know who's responsible, but they're fun.
commentsDezi and Mom Delray Beach -- 2002-04-07 Does anyone like to explain WHY are there blocks ( the size of my two year old daughter and The purpose of them being there is...? Sean Ryan Northeast -- 2003-09-12 The blocks are in the former river channel that made Hennepin Island and island. When NSP built their plant they damed it. The blocks are just remnants of old building projects and I beleive they stabilize the channel from the rushing outlet water. Somone got clever in the 80s and decided to make the blocks a piece of art. The park they're in(Father Hennepin) is very interesting. There are winding paths that lead you to the old tunnels and trailraces from the mills. Lots limestone caverns and foundations. You just have to watch out for bums here and there.
