description

You are standing on the northwest corner of 43rd and Upton, looking southeast. You can see the silver dome of the Lake Harriet Community Church at the top of the photo. It's the summer of 1999, and this picture was taken with a digital camera.

There are shops lining the streets east, west, and south of here. I consider this to be downtown Linden Hills. From left to right there is a gardening store, bike shop, butcher, Creative Kidstuff, Bibelot shop, and Sebastian Joe's. There is a bread store, hardware store, Cafe, and gift shop on the right-hand side of the street we're looking at(Upton Avenue).

Next we will look at this same scene in winter, standing a little closer.

The garden store was a drugstore back in the early 50's. On the same side south a little was a bakery. The brownies were great and only 5 cents each.Glad to see there is a hardware store yet on the other side. I bought my first fishing rod there.

The bakery was called "Queen Bee". The had the BEST cinamon rolls and chocolate longjohns!
