description

You are looking north from Hennepin Avenue near 2nd Avenue. The new Federal Reserve Bank can be seen across the street on the right. In the foreground is the George Washington flagpole. It was originally part of a downtown Park that stood here, called gateway park. The park was removed but this flagpole remains. The text on it reads:
"Presented to the City of Minneapolis as a monument to George Washington
By the Monument Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution July Fourth 1917"
