You are on 42nd Avenue North, on the west side of the Mississippi River, looking South towards downtown Minneapolis. In the foreground is a massive rail yard.
commentsMichael Lipski Seattle -- 2001-12-27 This railyard is Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Northtown Yard. The portion in the photograph is of the original yard owned by the Northern Pacific. The yard was expanded and modernized in the 1970's and remains one of the largest on the railroad's system. I used to watch trains from the St Anthony Parkway bridge (the vantage point the photograph is taken from) when I was growing up in Northeast Minneapolis. Thanks for bringing back memories!
