description

This is the southeast corner of the South High building. The main entrance is to the left. The auto shop door is on the right, where the white car is parked. The rock center frame is usually painted orange and black, tiger colors(the school's mascot is a tiger). The other rock on the left is new to me.

Rocks! do all minneapolis high schools have rocks now????
what happened to the washburn rocks since they were always stolen as pranks????
or is this a way to not have rocks stolen anymore?

Iwish that the other schools would just wuit marking on our property!!

  • anders t   mpls/dc -- 2001-05-11

the rocks have been fused to the earth via large slabs of concrete. this is to avoid future rock stealing pranks. ignore the fact that one of these rocks doesn't belong to the school. picking off layers of paint on the rocks is a fun way to not attend class.

ROOSEVELT IS THE BOMB! SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL IS LIKE A PRISON THEY DONT EVEN HAVE ANY WINDOWS.

  • Anonymous   Tenessee -- 2003-01-06

Did Josh Hartnett really go to this school? I have heard this from mulitple places, if he did that is so cool!!!

  • KAREN   431 LOGAN AVE NE -- 2003-02-01

THIS IS A BUNCH OF BULL . YOU ARE TRYING TO BLAME OTHER SCHOOLS FOR DAMAGING SOUTH HIGHS PROPERTY. DONT EVEN TRY TO BLAME USE NORTH HIGHERS.sOUTH IS LIKE A PRISON SCHOOL. THEY BARLY HAVE ANY WINDOWS. THATS MY OPINION

Hey chill out. This has been a tradition of painting since my brother graduated in the early 70's. Probably before you were born. South painted Roosevelts / Washburns rock etc. Most of the time there was TPing going on too. That was just part of everyones pride of their school. It is nothing to take personal.

our rock does rock! yes josh hartnet went to south, as did rachel lee cook... we have one of the best theater programs in the state.

  • South Tiger   Mpls. -- 2004-04-16

South is fabulous! I don't know what you are talking about and you freaks from Canada should come and SEE some of the shows put on at south! Our theater is AMAZING! (And enough with Josh Hartnett already!)

Graduated in 89 the rock on the left is the original painting rock. In 1990 two students died. the rock was painted in memorium for those students. The school hoped to preserve their memories by placing another rock for rival teams to paint. Unfortunately this did not deter people from painting over the memorial.

I graduated at south in 1996. It was a very nice school. After moving away from MN, i still come back sometimes and watch the plays, which is great.

  • BIGSTUNATIVEPRIDE   SOUTH SIDE! -- 2005-09-25

MAN I LOVED THIS SCHOOL, SOMETIMES I WISH I HADN'T GOTTEN KICKED OUT MY SOPHMORE YEAR. BUT I STILL REPRESENT SOUTH TO THIS DAY, IT'S MY HOOD AND MY SCHOOL....NOTHING BUT LOVE....SOUTH SIIIIDE!

  • Shelly K   Fridley, MN -- 2005-11-16

I graduated in '89 and will always remember the time they buried the Roosevelt rock!! It was tradition to attack the rock of our rivals!! I remember all too well when our classmates died. Rest in Peace!! I think everyone who attended MPLS public schools will remember the symbolic rocks on the school grounds!!

  • valerie flores   -- 2005-12-06

I go to that school and it does not feel like a prison.

  • Anonymous   -- 2006-02-27

south is worse than a prison. the lack of sunlight makes the student populace severly depressed, I believe, which would explain the emo-ness of this prison.

  • kw   bloomington -- 2006-03-03

I went to south my 9th grade year, then I had to move away. It sucks realy bad. South is a great school. Even though there is no windows. I'm in 11th grade now and I miss my old school. Hopfully we will move back and I can finish my senor year there. Now I go to JHS. South Rocks!!!!

  • bruce   -- 2006-07-06

SOUTH HIGH ROCKS, AND IS MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER HIGH SCHOOL!!!

  • sarena   -- 2006-09-05

SOUTH HIGH ROXS just because we don't have that many windows doesn't mean that it's bad news in the winter we don't freeze and the school IS NOT A PRISON you are just saying that because our school is the best athletic school!

  • Mimi   Mpls -- 2007-01-15

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the school with the best athletic department is Washburn

  • Paul   Coon Rapids -- 2007-05-11

I remember when this happened. But what is not posted is that we got revenge by taking their rock and putting it on Washburn's property. The rock was replaced in 91. I would know I was one of the people who did this!
