description

This is the Guthrie Theater on Vineland Place near Lyndale Avenue. The entrance, on the left, is also the entrance to the Walker Art Center (behind you on the left, out of frame). The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is behind you on the right, across the street.

Went here in the early 1970s with wife Carol and with Warren and Joan from Milwaukee, to see Beckett's "Waiting for Godot." Stayed downtown at the Marriott, had a ball.

I've seen Miles Davis, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Frank Zappa,Captain Beefheart, Ry Cooder, B.B. King, Weather Report, and a host of others at the Guthrie. I even saw some Shakespere when I was in the fifth grade, there. Mpls. has some of the best entertainment venues in the country.

God I miss this town. I live in LA now, but this is where I gre up most of my life, and I started working at the Guthrie as an usher in highschool, and eventually as a performer on their stage for 3 years. A Christmas Carol will always have a special place in my heart.

I was told recently that a new Guthrie Theater has been built, and that the old one is being torn down. The whole area around Loring Park is a little environment unto itself.
